Donna K. McGee, Artist
I try to impart a meditative effect, yet an exciting quality with my painting. I invite the viewer to let their eyes travel over the entire canvas, to be involved and draw their own inspiration. As I paint I do not start out with a clear vision, but I deliberate with each stroke and color. I am told that my works are paintings with a historical awareness. Using a sometimes bold but generally muted palette of earth and organic tones, my paintings evoke surfaces marked by the passing of time. I subvert the surface of the canvas with many types of texture to see how colors will react as they mix and form new surfaces. The initial calm surfaces betray the possibility of implosion; that these facades will give way to the unknown beneath.
I derive my inspiration from nature than depart into abstraction. I examine the way nature enters the work of art subconsciously in response to the sheer act of painting.
Large-scale work is available by commission. McGee makes abstract diptychs and triptychs measuring as much as 60″ x 144,” which make a strong statement in large homes, offices, hotels, or apartment building lobbies. Sizes, basic colors, and mood can be specified. If you are interested in her work, please contact her. She will be happy to arrange for you to see the work or provide you with more information about it.
